FAQs

Does this Practice Accept Insurance?

This practice is self- pay only which means it is out of network with insurance companies. On your request, we would be happy to provide you with a receipt/superbill which you can submit to your insurance.
However, submitting a superbill is not a guarantee that the visit fee will be reimbursed by insurance. That would depend on factors such as if your insurance covers out of network psychiatric and/or psychotherapy services and to what degree. You may also ask your insurance what deductible, if any, you need to meet before insurance will start covering services.
Here are our fees and services.

Are You Accepting New Patients?

Yes, we are accepting new patients at this time.

How to get started?

To contact us, please fill out the pre-screening form by reserving an appointment spot via the calendar at the bottom of this page. You will receive a pre-screening form which helps us determine if we might be a good fit for you. Once we receive the form, we will reach out to you with the next steps to schedule an appointment if we believe we can be of help to you. Otherwise, you will be provided names of other qualified clinicians in the area.

Once the initial evaluation visit (60-75 minutes long) is scheduled, you will receive a link to register with the patient portal, Charm prior to your visit. Charm is a HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record that coordinates scheduling, billing, and appointment. You will receive forms such as consent to treatment, and notice of privacy practice through the Charm platform.

What to Expect in Your Initial Evaluation Visit?

Your first visit would be a consultation visit wherein you will spend between about 75 minutes together. The psychiatrist will review your current and recent symptoms, review any prior testing reports, any relevant lab results, and review many aspects of your medical, mental health, and family history. This information will help better understand your unique clinical situation in order to create an individualized, evidence based treatment plan that best fits your mental health needs. This visit will also include specific questions about symptoms and diagnoses. Towards the end of the first visit, the psychiatrist will share initial thoughts/clinical assessment with you, and provide education about your condition and related treatment options.
Part of the initial consultation will be for you and the psychiatrist to determine if there is a right fit. If you and the psychiatrist agree upon a treatment plan, at that time, a plan for individual therapy and/or medication treatment will be initiated. This will involve discussing the potential risks, side effects, and benefits of each treatment option.

Will the psychiatrist renew my existing medications at my initial consultation visit?
The answer is mostly yes and sometimes no. In some cases, we might not agree with certain medication choices, or we don’t prescribe certain medications for clinical reasons. In that case, if you are switching care, you may need to get your medication/s from your existing psychiatrist or you can also ask your primary care provider if they might be able to provide you with your mental health medications until you can get established with a new psychiatrist.

Will you use email for communication?

Richa Bhatia, MD Inc. uses Charm (for electronic medical record, scheduling, payment, patient communication, and video visits). Charm is HIPAA-compliant. We do not communicate with patients via email, as email is not generally HIPAA-compliant.
